At Owl Lane Farm Nurseries we are Greenhouse Specialists…
To be honest, we have spent most of our lives in greenhouses, first as children ‘helping’ and then most of our working lives have been in greenhouses.
So we felt we should share a few of our tips for choosing the perfect greenhouse.
First of all, should you go for wood, or aluminium?
Wood is a lovely material, it is warm, and cedar wood is long lasting.
It is however harder to clean, and if stained will need to be retreated from time to time.
Wooden greenhouses are therefore warmer in the winter, but they have higher maintenance costs and ultimately even the best wood does go soft and need replacing.
Aluminium conducts heat and so is a slightly cooler material than wood, but it is long lasting, maintenance free and can come powder coated (a paint like material baked onto the aluminium)
Because aluminium is basically maintenance free, and looks fabulous when powder coated it is our first choice.
Another advantage is that there are less places for pests and diseases to overwinter on an aluminium greenhouse.
